Manager Arturo Roman addresses the media in regards to the recent call-ups from AAA and the Dallas Texans, who are currently 37-28 in first place in the Tommy Lasorda Division.
Hello again everyone, I continue to hear the same things over and over, Mr. Roman your team seems to be just going along winning here losing here, not really being able to put a nice winning streak together, does it bother me, no. On our last visit the team had a record of 26-20, and in first place, since then we've gone 11-8, and still in first place with a winning record of 37-28. I'm very proud of our team as we've had key injuries, one to JESSE CLARK, the other to STEVE COX, as I stated to my team each of us must step up to the plate and survive this period without 2 of our top stars. Jesse Clark is now back and has led the way to our team batting AVG being .285, Steve Fox, is about 2 weeks away, I believe we have survived fine. Now I get the latest news from our training staff that RYAN ERICKSON(CF), will be out for about 2 weeks, again we are asking our guys to step it up a notch. In a conversation with Bill Best our scouting director he feels the time is right to give Matt Welch an opportunity to see if he can keep that HOT BAT he has had in AAA alive and bring him up to the Parent Club now, so with that being said we have promoted Matt Welch who will be our starting RF during the next 2 weeks. He now has his chance. Reflected below are his current numbers at AAA.

As I spoke with Bill Best the focus turned to our SP, the number 4 spot has been filled by Tom Chandler who has done a good job there, but we felt it was time to get him a little more grooming at the AAA level something that Tom Chandler didnt have an issue with. With that being said there is a young man at AAA we had counted on to be in our starting rotation from day 1, but things didn't work out. We sent him down to AAA to work a few mechanical things out, and from reports he is ready for another opportunity, below you will see what he has done at AAA, Joe McDowell will be inserted in the #4 SP spot, and we feel he'll do well there, at AAA he has started 11 games , and has a record of 5-3 with an ERA of 2.62. We welcome both of these young men.
